The Anatomy of a World Class Valve Spring:

  1. Superclean High-Alloy Wire
    A world class valve spring begins with the finest valve spring wire. Tool RoomTM Gold Stripe Springs are precision-wound from custom drawn, vacuum de-gassed "super-clean" high alloy spring steel. Superfinishing and triple ultrasonic inspection assures a seamless, defect-free smooth surface. Laboratory tests confirm, no finer valve spring wire has ever been produced.

  2. Precision Winding; Accurate Pitch Control
    Compress a Tool RoomTM Gold Stripe Spring to the full valve open position. Notice how evenly the coils close down from one side to the other, allowing for more uniform load & stress distribution. That's what precision winding is all about!

  3. Absolute Concentric Diameters
    Have you ever noticed that the end coils of some valve springs are not concentric (on the same center) as the middle coils of the spring? Because they are wound so concentrically, Tool RoomTM Gold Stripe Springs maintain a consistent, precise interference-fit and optimum dampening between thir outer and inner components.

  4. Ends Precision Ground, Flat & Parallel
    Slow, precision feed rates (no forced grinding on Tool RoomTM Gold Stripe Springs) produce exceptionally flat, smooth end surfaces. Superfinishing eliminates burrs and retainer chafing. Body to end squareness is exceptionally accurate and Tool RoomTM Gold Stripe Springs maintain their squareness under load, eliminating unwanted bending stresses for longer valve spring, guide and seat life!

  5. Surface Conditionning
    "State of the Art", 100% full coverage uniform shot-peening guarantees never an over or under-peened surface, significantly improving fatigue life in Tool RoomTM Gold Stripe Springs. Subsequent proprietary conditioning operations "burnish" the surface of Tool RoomTM Spring to reduce unnecessary friction, lower operating temperatures and eliminate the need for expensive coatings!

  6. Near-Zero Load Loss Processing
    Exceptional endurance properties are the essence of the Tool RoomTM Series. While other valve springs may experience an initial 15-30 lb. drop almost immediately, Tool RoomTM Springs typically lose less than 5 lbs. after 1,000 Racing Test Miles! The Secret? Sorry, it really is a trade secret. But, we can tell you that we employ a special high-temperature load-retention process that is unique in the high performance industry!

  7. Digital Load-Testing
    Spring loads and rates are closely monitored throughout the manufacturing and assembly process by highly accurate computer controlled load cell/test stations, which are calibrated twice daily. (photo at right)

  8. Lab Certified, Micro-Refined Grain Structure
    Special low temperature processing techniques produce a micro-refined material grain structure verified by routine scanning electron microscopy. Improved ductility and a dramatic extension in valve spring fatigue life results from these procedures, exclusively applied to Tool RoomTM Gold Stripe Springs.

  9. Endurance Testing
    Isky is the only valve spring manufacturer to test all their endurance valve springs. Every part number, every batch. No exceptions!
